Topic: Tracing your Ancestors Back to the British Isles
Speaker: Colin Whitney
Everyone born in the United States has ancestors who came from another continent. At some point in your research, you will be faced with the problem of finding your ancestors’ places of origin. This will be the first part of a two-part series. We will provide a general overview of immigration to the US with an emphasis on immigrants arriving from the British Isles. Then we will examine nineteenth century immigration, uncovering migrations from specific areas of Ireland and the United Kingdom. In the second part, we will look at locations where the immigrants settled and the records available.
