Topic: DNA Helps Break Down Irish Brick Wall
Speaker: Colin Whitney
In tracing my daughter's roots back to Ireland, I hit a brick wall with her third grandfather, Patrick Woods. Surviving Irish records for people of that name were insufficient to conclude that they were for the Patrick Woods on my wife's family tree. Then I came across a DNA match to my daughter KC. Building her tree lead me to her ancestors living in Antrim, Northern Ireland. Using census substitutes and other records I was able to establish that Patrick and KC's ancestors lived in adjacent townlands and that this was the likely ancestor on my daughter's tree.
