This special interest group has a different speaker each meeting.
Fritz Juengling, from Salt Lake City, has a doctorate in Germanic Philology with minors in both English and Linguistics at the University of Minnesota. Germanic Philology is a highly specialized field of study, combining languages, linguistics, paleography and history. Another one you must attend!
Dr. Juengling will present two lectures:
1. "Historical Events that Affect German Genealogical Research"
This class puts genealogical research into historical context.
2. "The Genealogical Value of German Guild Records"
In this lecture, we learn the history, structure, and purpose of guilds. Then, we look at some of the many record types that guilds created and how they can be of use to the researcher, especially when church records are missing and how these records can fill those gaps.
